Duro-Last® receives recycling award

Duro-Last Inc., Saginaw, Mich., received an Excellence in Recycling Award from the Michigan Recycling Coalition during the coalition's annual conference in May.

The award is given annually to one Michigan organization that demonstrates leadership and excellence in recycling and waste diversion. Duro-Last was recognized for its ongoing efforts to recycle manufacturing scrap and aged roofing materials into flooring products. The company also decreased the amount of landfill waste produced at its facilities by removing STYROFOAM™ cups, introducing recycling stations that accept 15 types of material and installing water bottle refilling stations.

Sika Sarnafil products now available through Amazon

Sika Sarnafil Corp., Lyndhurst, N.J., has announced its Sikaflex® and Sikasil® adhesives and sealants now are available on Amazon.com to benefit customers in remote locations.

Available products include cartridges of Sika Sarnafil's Sikaflex-221 sealant, Sikaflex-211 sealant, Sikaflex-252 adhesive, Sikasil-GP sealant and Sikasil-N Plus sealant. The products will be delivered directly to buyers, and customers can choose to take advantage of express shipping through Amazon Prime.

SOPREMA® Inc. awards student scholarships

SOPREMA Inc., Wadsworth, Ohio, has announced the winners of its scholarship program.

The following received scholarships for the 2017-18 academic year: Kevin Ballentine of Carlisle, Pa., who will be studying electrical engineering at Grove City College, Grove City, Pa.; Chandler Householder of McKinney, Texas, who will be studying architecture at University of Texas at Austin; Thomas King of Chattanooga, Tenn., who is attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Va.; Nick Mecklenburg of Roseville, Calif., who is attending University of California, Berkeley; Molly Nelson of Dalles, Ore., who will be studying chemical engineering at University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, Minneapolis; Emily Waldinger of Springfield, Ill., who is attending Miami University, Oxford, Ohio; and Katherine Young of Clermont, Fla., who is attending California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

The scholarships are offered to students pursuing degrees in architecture, engineering, construction management or similar fields.

GAF to open new Pennsylvania facility

GAF, Parsippany, N.J., has announced it will open a manufacturing plant in New Columbia, Pa., during the fourth quarter of 2017.

The 34-acre facility will employ more than 40 people and produce TPO single-ply membranes for commercial roofing applications, as well as injection-molding components for residential roof systems. The New Columbia location also will serve as a regional training facility for contractors and other roofing industry professionals. GAF has an asphaltic shingle plant in Myerstown, Pa., and more than 30 manufacturing facilities in the U.S.

3M™ launches trade-in program

3M, St. Paul, Minn., has launched its 3M Fall Protection Trade-In, Trade-Up program. The program aims to give industry professionals access to effective equipment that complies with the most recent safety standards.

Workers and safety managers are invited to trade in qualifying fall-protection equipment and trade up for products from the 3M Fall Protection line, as well as receive cash rebates. To participate, workers and safety managers should identify fall-protection products they want to trade in, select the available 3M Fall Protection program products to trade up, place an order with a 3M distributor and register the purchase online to initiate a rebate. Qualifying purchases must be made before Dec. 31.

Wedge Roofing receives Better Business Bureau award

Wedge Roofing Inc., Petaluma, Calif., received a 2017 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Ethics from the Better Business Bureau during an award ceremony held at Wedge Roofing's headquarters.

The Torch Awards for Ethics competition honors businesses that demonstrate commitment to trust and marketplace ethics. Wedge Roofing was recognized for providing ethical and trustworthy services and supporting its community by donating roofs to those in need. Wedge Roofing received the award in the 11-49 employees category in the regional competition for the Bay Area and northern California and now is eligible for the Better Business Bureau International Torch Award for Ethics.

PetersenDean Roofing & Solar announces expansion

PetersenDean Roofing & Solar, Fremont, Calif., has announced the expansion of its solar division in Nevada.

Gov. Brian Sandoval (R-Nev.) reinstated an energy policy in June to return net metering to state residents, making residential solar a viable option again after net metering programs virtually ended in 2015.

During its Nevada expansion, PetersenDean Roofing & Solar expects to hire at least 50 people and pursue 1,200 new projects annually as homeowners purchase solar system technology.

ABC Supply celebrates anniversary

ABC Supply Co. Inc., Beloit, Wis., celebrated its 35th anniversary in June. The company, an exterior and interior building products distributor, was founded in 1982 by Ken and Diane Hendricks. In 1982, ABC Supply had three stores—the company now has more than 700 locations in 49 states. The company commemorated the milestone with its annual Founders' Celebration at the National Support Center and headquarters.

In addition, ABC Supply has acquired the assets of Capstone Supply LLC, a Columbus, Ohio-based roofing and siding distributor. The acquisition enables ABC Supply to continue serving contractors in the Columbus and Cincinnati markets.

SRS Distribution to acquire distributor

SRS Distribution Inc., McKinney, Texas, has announced its upcoming acquisition of SG Wholesale Roofing Supplies, Santa Ana, Calif., a family-owned distributor of residential and commercial roofing products, supplies and services.

SRS Distribution will continue to operate SG Wholesale Roofing Supplies' branches in Costa Mesa, Calif.; Gardena, Calif.; Santa Ana; Spring Valley, Calif.; and Vista, Calif., under the SG Wholesale Roofing Supplies name while serving local roofing contractors.

The Property Drone Consortium, a collaboration of insurance carriers, roofing industry leaders and supporting enterprises, has elected Bryan Corder and Gary Sullivan to co-chair the organization for the next two years.

Corder represents Allstate Insurance, Northbrook, Ill.

Sullivan is serving his second term as chair and represents Erie Insurance, Erie, Pa.
