Solar modules are efficient

ecoSolargy Inc. has introduced its Titan Series solar module line, which offers 270- to 300-watt solar modules with 18 percent maximum cell efficiency. The modules reportedly will produce 17 watts per square foot.

ecoSolargy developed the Titan Series for utility- and commercial-scale projects that seek modules with high output while maintaining a small carbon footprint. For a 10,000-square-foot roof, the Titan Series 300-watt modules reportedly will produce 135 kilowatts with 450 modules, 27 kilowatts more with 90 fewer modules than the same rooftop installed with 200-watt modules. Titan Series also is listed with the California Energy Commission.

Sealer maintains hot pipe applications

Chem Link Inc. has added a third self-leveling sealer to its ChemCurb System for contractors who need a seal that can maintain hot pipe applications up to 350 F. The DuraSil SL is an oxime cure silicone sealant designed for use in pitch pans and warranted ChemCurb penetration seals.

DuraSil SL reportedly is solvent-free with no isocyanate; it will not shrink and can adhere to most construction materials. Its elastomeric properties and low durometer allow it to accommodate roof movement.

PV modules have a slim design

Saint-Gobain Solar has introduced its Avancis PowerMax® premium class photovoltaic modules. PowerMax modules combine copper-indium-selenide (CIS) solar power technology with a slim design, providing an ultra-efficient, cost-effective energy solution.

PowerMax black panels are said to be durable, easy to install and suitable for use on roofs, curtain walls and canopies. The products' CIS technology incorporates thin layers—less than 1 micron each—deposited on a glass substrate, said to enable the highest electricity conversion efficiency for thin-film solar modules. The system reportedly will offset about 20 percent of annual electricity consumption and reduce carbon emissions by 224,000 pounds during 20 years—the equivalent of a 23-acre forest.

Safety helmet is ventilated

Gateway Safety Inc. has introduced its Serpent™ Ventilated Safety Helmet, which reportedly provides all-day comfort and excellent ventilation combined with optimal head injury protection.

The 13.1-ounce helmet features a six-point nylon suspension system. A rotating ratchet adjustment easily fits over the nape of the wearer's neck for a comfortable and secure fit. The helmet's CoolSense™ airflow system and six vents along the helmet's peak promote heat release and keep the wearer cool.

Sealant system is easy to install

Geocel® LLC has introduced its Pro Fit™ Pocket Penetration Sealant System, a universal solution said to be high in value and low in waste. The pocket is flexible and shaped to fit around challenging configurations without complex cutting or assembling. Each system contains enough material to install a single large pocket or multiple smaller pockets.

Pro Fit Pocket Penetration Sealant System's packaging includes a shoulder strap that allows the complete system to be carried safely to the roof, hands-free. The system seals roof system penetrations on EPDM, TPO, PVC, built-up, metal, asphalt and other roof substrates. It reportedly installs in less than 15 minutes with no flashing, priming or roofing expertise required.

The system package includes a 56-inch Pro Fit Pocket, 10-fluid-ounce cartridge of GeoGreen 4500® Roof Bonding Sealant in black, up to two 2-liter pouches of 4515® Pitch Pan & Repair Sealant in black, four self-tapping screws and a trowel.

Roof membrane is bitumen-free

DERBIGUM® Americas Inc. has introduced DERBIPURE, a bitumen-free commercial waterproofing roof membrane with a white reflective surface.

DERBIPURE reportedly is 100 percent recyclable. It comprises natural raw materials with a white reflective, pH-neutral roof covering. The roof covering's passive cooling effect reduces energy consumption and carbon dioxide production, and the pH-neutral surfacing allows for rainwater harvesting and recycling. The vegetable membrane's raw materials come from renewable resources sourced from the U.S.

NRCA products

Safety programs now are available

Two NRCA safety programs—Fall Protection for the Roofing Industry: Employee Training Program and Traps and Snares: Avoiding "Caught In" and "Caught Between" Hazards in the Roofing Industry—now are available.

Fall Protection for the Roofing Industry: Employee Training Program provides information to help roofing workers comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA's) federal standards for low- and steep-slope roofing work.

After completing the fall-protection training, roofing workers will understand the importance of safe work practices; realize the benefits of using required fall-protection equipment; be able to identify fall-protection equipment commonly used in the roofing industry; know the proper fall-protection requirements for low- and steep-slope roofing work; recognize fall hazards on low- and steep-slope roofing project job sites; and understand the importance of having rescue and self-rescue equipment on job sites. The fall-protection program's Fall Protection Investigation Series DVD includes three episodes: Fall Protection—Terms and Definitions; Fall Protection for Low-slope Roofing; and Fall Protection for Steep-slope Roofing.

Traps and Snares: Avoiding "Caught In" and "Caught Between" Hazards in the Roofing Industry shows roofing workers the proper practices and safety equipment to use to avoid injury and ways to comply with OSHA's federal standards. Through this program, roofing workers will learn about hazards associated with below-grade waterproofing installations; confined spaces; cranes, conveyors and hoists; excavation sites; ladders and scaffolds; life equipment; power-driven tools and equipment; and propane tanks.

Both programs are available in English and Spanish and include downloadable instructional videos; an instructors guide with step-by-step training instructions; student handout materials; and customizable completion certificates. NRCA's self-study program, Tame Your Training Fears: How to Become a Great Trainer, is included for free with the programs.

Each program is $150 for NRCA members and $295 for nonmembers. For more information or to purchase the programs, visit shop.nrca.net or contact NRCA's Customer Service Department at (866) ASK-NRCA (275-6722) or info@nrca.net.
