Koppers awards contractors

Pittsburgh-based Koppers Industries Inc. recently named NRCA member Campbell Roofing and Contracting Co., Warner Robins, Ga., its 2001 Southeast Contractor of the Year. The contracting company was recognized for installing the most Koppers Industries' coal-tar roof systems in the Southeast during 2001.

In addition, Summers Roofing Co., Atlanta, and NRCA member Tip-Top Roofers Inc., Atlanta, were presented with plaques for maintaining relationships with Koppers Industries for more than 50 years.

Johns Manville vice president to retire

Bartley E. Roggensack Jr., vice president and general manager of Denver-based Johns Manville's Roofing Systems Group, will retire Dec. 31.

During his 33-year tenure with Johns Manville, Roggensack has held several positions, including acoustical sales representative, market manager, director of sales and marketing, and vice president and general merchandising manager. Roggensack has been active in NRCA and served as 1998-99 president of the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association.

Firestone opens new facility

Firestone Building Products Co., Carmel, Ind., has opened a 69,000-square-foot (6410-m2) distribution center in Stockton, Calif. The new facility replaces the company's Oakland, Calif.-based distribution center and houses Firestone Building Products' lines of EPDM, asphalt and thermoplastic roof systems and roof system accessories. According to company representatives, the facility will better serve the company's customers in the West.

Owens Corning combines programs

Toledo, Ohio-based Owens Corning has combined its MiraVista® Specialty Roofing Program and Fabricating Solutions' Architectural Metal Roofing Program into its Specialty Roofing Sales and Marketing Group. The consolidation will help customers locate Owens Corning's specialty products by contacting only one department. The consolidation was effective July 1.

In addition, the company now offers its Tru PROtection PreferredTM Warranty exclusively to Owens Corning Preferred Contractors and Builder AllianceTM Program Members. The warranty can be used on roof systems up to 150 squares (1350 m2) and allows contractors to set prices.

Allied Building Products expands

Allied Building Products, East Rutherford, N.J., has purchased A.L.L. Roofing & Building Material Corp., Los Angeles. The acquisition includes A.L.L. Roofing & Building Material's eight building materials facilities in the Los Angeles basin and San Diego, as well as a facility in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. The acquisition will help Allied Building Products better serve the southern California building materials market. No employee or facility changes reportedly will occur.

Students tour INSPEC's facility

As part of its Outreach Program, INSPEC Inc., Minneapolis, hosted a tour at its facility for 16 Minneapolis-based North Community High School students who are interested in architecture and engineering.

The students reviewed design processes, computerized drafting, management programs and digital photography. They also participated in material and roof system surface testing demonstrations using infrared cameras and technology.

The tour is intended to help students realize the importance of design professionals in the construction industry and opportunities available to them.

Up the Ladder

Tom Frost has been named senior vice president of technical services for the International Code Council.

MetalWorks has hired Rick Lawson as area manager for Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.

Darryl Dickerson has been named Stevens Roofing Systems' sales representative for Arkansas, Mississippi and western Tennessee.
