Wyoming Roofing receives award

Kelly Hahn, director of human resources, and Ryan Gregory, president of Wyoming Roofing

Wyoming Roofing LLC, Sheridan, has been named Small Employer of the Year by the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services. The award recognizes small businesses for their hiring and safety practices.

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services helps ensure all Wyoming businesses are safe places to work. Wyoming Roofing was nominated for the award because the company provides excellent service, employs quality workers and fosters community programs. The company hires most of its candidates from Wyoming Workforce Services and prefers to hire veterans. Wyoming Roofing also provides safety training, personal development and other education that support its values.

Rutter Roofing donates roof system

David Gardner (center) received a roof system from Rutter Roofing.

Rutter Roofing, Malvern, Pa., has installed a new roof system on the home of a veteran selected as the winner of the company’s Memorial Day Giveaway. Harleysville, Pa., resident and retired Army Sgt. David Gardner received a new roof system Sept. 11. A Vietnam War veteran, Gardner was unknowingly entered into the giveaway by his son, Dave.

“I was totally shocked,” Gardner says. “When Rutter Roofing called and told me I had won a new roof, I actually dropped my phone and broke it. When I picked up my new phone and returned the call, all I could say was, ‘You’re kidding?’”

Jackie Blinebury, director of business development at Rutter Roofing, says the company created the giveaway as part of its Community/Service/Leadership pledge, which focuses on charitable giving efforts each fiscal quarter. According to Blinebury, Gardner was the perfect candidate to receive a new roof system because his roof was more than two decades old.

“A roof is perhaps the most crucial component of keeping your home and belongings safe, but it’s also a major investment that many people put off due to the cost,” Blinebury says. “This was a great opportunity for us to help someone who fought to protect our nation, and it makes all of us here feel proud to say we work for Rutter Roofing.”

ARMA calls for award entries

The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association is accepting submissions for its 2020 Excellence in Asphalt Roofing Awards Program. Roofing contractors are encouraged to submit their best steep- and low-slope asphalt roofing projects from the past three years for consideration by Dec. 1.

“Our program keeps growing as roofing contractors continue executing some amazing and innovative projects they are proud to submit for recognition,” says Reed Hitchcock, ARMA’s executive vice president. “Moving the application deadline up to Dec. 1 gives our judges more time to consider what we anticipate will be an increased number of submissions over previous years.”

In addition to the revised deadline, projects will now be judged in four categories: reasons for selecting asphalt, performance, beauty and distinction. Projects will receive scores on a scale of 1 (poor) through 10 (extraordinary).

ARMA will present the awards on the tradeshow floor during the 2020 International Roofing Expo,® Feb. 4-6 in Dallas. Winners will receive a monetary prize, as well as recognition in national trade media, local media, and on ARMA’s website and social media. There is no limit to the number of entries a company may submit as long as each project meets the program criteria.

TAMKO® Building Products celebrates 75th anniversary

TAMKO Building Products LLC, Joplin, Mo., is celebrating 75 years in business this year. The company proudly reflected on its history and held events in September, including an employee picnic at its downtown operations facility in Joplin.

On Sept. 5, 1944, TAMKO Building Products was created when founders E.L. and Mary Ethel Craig named their new roofing company TAMKO as an acronym of the first letters of the states they believed would be their sales territory: Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. TAMKO Building Products grew from one location in an old barn in southwest Missouri to a national roofing manufacturer with more than 20 U.S. facilities and a variety of building products.

“We will continue to adapt the world to ourselves—as change is inevitable—but how we adapt, how we evolve, who we hire to join our team, all of these will determine our future,” says David Humphreys, president and CEO of TAMKO Building Products. “Things will change, we will make strategic choices, and, as we celebrate 75 years, we will be focused on positioning TAMKO Building Products for even faster growth and greater success.”
