The NRCA Roofing Manual: Metal Panel and SPF Roof Systems—2008 is the second volume in a four-volume series intended to update and supersede The NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual, Fifth Edition, including its 2003 and 2006 interim updates. The manual is divided into two sections—Metal Panel Roof Systems and SPF Roof Systems—and provides comprehensive information about the design, materials and installation techniques applicable to metal panel and spray polyurethane foam (SPF) roof systems used in low- and steep-slope applications.

The NRCA Roofing Manual: Membrane Roof Systems—2007 provides in-depth, comprehensive technical information about the design, materials and installation techniques applicable to membrane roof systems used in low-slope roof system applications. The manual includes information about roof decks, rigid board insulation, roof membranes, surfacings and system design guidelines, as well as 318 details.

The NRCA Waterproofing Manual provides the latest information about proper design, quality materials and workmanship, waterstops, warranties, material storage and handling, weather considerations, slope and drainage, flashings and more. This manual is intended to complement The NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual, Fifth Edition and should be used as a guideline to prepare proper specifications.

The NRCA Building Codes Manual, Third Edition is designed to assist in using model building codes and understanding the roofing-related provisions they contain. It includes detailed analyses of building code requirements for specific roof system types contained in the 2006 International Building Code, 2006 International Residential Code and National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA's) 2006 edition of NFPA 5000: Building Construction and Safety Code.®

The NRCA Green Roof Systems Manual—2007 Edition provides in-depth technical information about landscaped roof system design and installation. The manual focuses on landscaped roof systems' waterproofing aspects but also provides limited information about landscaped roof system components that are not waterproofing-related, such as growth medium, filter fabric and reservoir layer. The manual also is available in a CD format, which features 55 landscaped roof construction details in AutoCAD 2000 format, including extensive, semi-extensive and intensive landscaped roof systems.

2007-08 Steep-slope Roofing Materials Guide provides information from 49 manufacturers about 382 steep-slope products, including asphalt shingles, fiber-cement and synthetic roof components, metal roof components, tile, wood shakes and shingles, slate and underlayment. The guide features descriptions, comparative data, manufacturer-reported wind and fire ratings, ASTM International test results and building code approvals formatted for side-by-side comparison.

The Alliance announces call for entries

The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress has announced a call for entries for its Roofing Industry's Most Valuable Player (MVP) Awards Program. The deadline for entries is Nov. 10.

Any roofing field worker (up to and including superintendent) employed by an NRCA member or nonmember contractor is eligible to be nominated. Nominations per contracting firm must not exceed three per company branch, and self-nominations are not permitted. Criteria by which nominees will be evaluated include community service and volunteerism; attracting new roofing workers and helping retain existing ones; contributions to a team effort; outstanding on-the-job performance; and other noteworthy contributions and activities.

The awards program will recognize up to 10 roofing workers from 10 geographic regions. MVP Award winners will receive two complimentary airfares and two nights' hotel accommodations for the 2009 International Roofing Expo® and NRCA's 122nd Annual Convention in Las Vegas Feb. 1-5, 2009. Each winner also will receive one complimentary conference registration and exhibit hall pass, two tickets to the NRCA Cocktail and Awards Reception, and a $100 American Express Gift Certificate.

Once again, one MVP Award winner will be chosen as Professional Roofing's Best of the Best. Professional Roofing and OMG Inc., Agawam, Mass., are co-sponsoring the award, which will include a special prize and feature article in Professional Roofing Workers.

All MVP Award winners also will be recognized in Professional Roofing, NRCA's For Members Only newsletter and on www.roofingindustryalliance.net. Winners also will be the focus of press releases sent to local and national media and industry trade press. Additionally, all finalists selected as award winners will receive certificates of merit.

Judging will be conducted by a panel of roofing industry representatives, including manufacturers, contractors and other industry suppliers.
