Earmuffs protect hearing

Gateway Safety Inc. has introduced its Sound Series™ Earmuffs, including SoundChoice,™ SoundDecision™ and SoundOut.™

SoundChoice has a 22-decibel (dB) noise reduction rating (NRR) and features a fully adjustable padded headband and adjustable swivel cups that reportedly provide an effective seal against more than 90 percent of workplace noise hazards and low-level sound environments.

SoundDecision has a 25-dB NRR and features a three-position padded headband. The earmuffs reportedly are adjustable, lightweight and comfortable.

SoundOut has a 28-dB NRR and features a three-position padded headband, foam cushions and adjustable swivel cups.

Additionally, Gateway Safety has introduced its StarLite-SM® protective eyewear, which is said to protect workers' eyes and comfortably fit smaller faces.

StarLite-SM features a dual 9.75 base curvature viewing area, which is said to provide a wide, unobstructed view. The eyewear's lenses reportedly are scratch-resistant and protect against 99.9 percent of the sun's rays.

Hatches are environmentally friendly

Milcor's roof access hatches are now available in pre-painted white.

The roof access hatches' white paint is made from a low volatile organic compound and water-based formula that reportedly helps reduce atmospheric emissions. The steel used to manufacture the hatches is made from 90 percent recycled content.

Roof system is reflective

Flex Roofing Systems has introduced its Metal Roof Retrofit System, which reportedly extends a roof system's service life, stays cooler than other metal roof systems and can reduce air-conditioning costs.

The Metal Roof Retrofit System consists of insulation or a cover board and either a DuPont Elvaloy®-modified thermoplastic single-ply membrane or a Flex TPO Plus™ single-ply membrane. The system reportedly can be installed without removing an existing roof system.

Cleaner is biodegradable

Kafko International Ltd. has introduced its Oil Eater® Cleaner Degreaser, which reportedly is water-based and environmentally friendly and eliminates the need for multiple cleaning solutions.

Oil Eater Cleaner Degreaser is said to leave no residue and be effective for cleaning equipment, engines, tools, concrete and asphalt. The cleaner reportedly is noncorrosive, nonflammable and biodegradable.

Membrane is energy-efficient

Polyglass® USA Inc. has added PolyFresko™ APP SA P, a self-adhering elastomeric roof membrane, to its line of KOOL ROOF SOLUTIONS. The membrane features fine white granules treated with a coating that reportedly is reflective, acid-resistant and energy-efficient.

PolyFresko APP SA P is made with Polyglass USA's ADESO® technology and is composed of an APP compound in its top layer and a self-adhering compound in its bottom layer. It features a reinforced polyester mat that is said to provide strength and dimensional stability. The membrane reportedly can be used as a primary weathering surface on new construction, built-up roof repair, reroofing and re-cover applications, and flashing applications.

Shakes are durable

DaVinci Roofscapes® LLC has introduced its DaVinci Fancy Shake synthetic cedar roof shingles, which reportedly look like machine-sewn cedar shakes.

DaVinci Fancy Shakes are said to require no special tools or training to install and reportedly will not curl, fade or crack. The shakes are said to be ultraviolet-resistant and durable.

Coating reduces cooling costs

Conklin® Co. Inc. has introduced PUMA,™ a roof system featuring polyurethane-modified acrylic, which is said to be stronger and more durable than conventional acrylic roof coatings.

PUMA has a white surface that is said to reduce a building's cooling costs by reflecting up to 85 percent of the sun's heat. It has a water-based formula that reportedly produces low volatile organic compound emissions. The coating is said to apply in one coat and be fast-drying and erosion-resistant.

Video promotes safety harnesses

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) has released "Only dummies don't wear harnesses on booms," a video showing the dangers of not wearing a full-body harness while on a boom-type access platform.

The video features a demonstration during which a crash dummy fitted to a boom shows the effects of driving over a low-lying obstacle. The crash dummy, which is not wearing a harness, is suspended at the top of the boom's basket and shows the jolting and catapulting effects when the boom goes over the obstacle.

Cover speeds installations

Metal-Era Inc.'s Hi-Perf Ridge Vent now features a snap-on cover that is said to speed the vent's installations.

High-Perf Ridge Vent's snap-on cover is available in 0.040-, 0.050- and 0.063-inch-thick aluminum and 24-gauge steel. It reportedly allows for design flexibility, has no exposed fasteners and allows shingles to be attached directly to Hi-Perf Ridge Vent.

EcoStar® has added 10-inch Majestic Slate™ Traditional tiles to its line of recycled synthetic roofing products. The synthetic slate reportedly looks like natural slate.

The 10-inch Majestic Slate Traditional tiles are made of postindustrial recycled rubber and plastics and are available in nine colors. The tiles are said to be flexible and protect against hail, wind and wind-driven rain.

Walkway protects roofs

West Development Group has introduced its Z-Guard Pedestrian Traffic System, a one-component, moisture-curing, silicone/quartz liquid composite slurry that reportedly protects sprayed-in-place polyurethane foam roof systems from heavy foot traffic.

Z-Guard Pedestrian Traffic System is made of silicone rubber, organic hardeners and quartz aggregates. The walkway reportedly cures in 12 to 18 hours at normal temperatures and is tack-free in one to two hours. Z-Guard Pedestrian Traffic System is applied with a trowel and reportedly dries to a hardness of 80 pounds per square inch.

Vivilon Coatings has introduced its Tough Enough Clear Coating with improved ultraviolet (UV) resistance.

Tough Enough Clear Coating contains inorganic zinc oxide and titanium dioxide nanoparticles that reportedly absorb UV light. The coating reportedly restores original color and shine to surfaces.
